Digging in the garden?

Digging in the garden?

Digging in the garden?

Since I moved to Murwillumbah almost 10 years ago, I have spent every Easter weekend in the garden!

It’s the perfect time to pull the last of those summer weeds out, pop in some Spring-flowering bulbs, and top up the mulch all around. Here are my top 3 tips for staying garden-fit!

1) “Little and Often” is my oft-repeated mantra! If you only spend one weekend a year in the garden make sure you break up your tasks. Have rests often, and alternate between sitting, standing, crouching and bending.

2) Make sure your tools are up to the job! People often hurt themselves using blunt tools. Even I have hurt myself over-using blunt secateurs. A job done well is a job done swiftly with sharp spades, secateurs and saws.

3) Take time to walk around and appreciate your hard work! Not only is it good for the mind and soul, it’s good for your body to be upright in between digging in the soil!
