Have you tried anything new while you’ve been in isolation?
With sports cancelled and gyms closed, this has been quite the opportunity to trial new activities. Have you had workouts pinned in Pinterest? Have you subscribed to your favourite yoga on Youtube? Have you downloaded a training app?
Running
Couch to 5K is a well-known and sensible running programme. It helps you start at a low level of fitness (the couch!) to being able to run 5km. Alternating between running and walking, it builds you up slowly and gently, hopefully avoiding any injuries. Here is the C25K website.
Dancing
While I am of the firm belief that the only thing necessary for dancing is a bit of groove, there is a lot of benefit to dance instruction! The Australian Ballet’s Artistic Directer, David McAllister, has been releasing mini snippet ballet lessons. Now it’s time to confess that one of my only regrets is never taking dancing lessons as a child: so it is “young Abby’s” dream come true! The lessons are short but sweet and at an accessible level. Find them on the Australian Ballet’s Instagram and YouTube.
Gardening = exercise!
Many people I know are going gardening mad during isolation! And what a great time for it: no social activities, no kids’ sport and it has been the perfect weather for getting outdoors. As with all new activities, I recommend you pace yourself. Also, make sure you are alternating position regularly. Here’s an old blog that I just posted with physio tips for gardening!
