Hands up who gets a bit down in Winter? Having the country in lockdowns on and off doesn’t help, right?
It also seems harder to keep doing regular activity when it’s cold outside. We know this will also contribute to feeling stressed and a bit down. Every year, physios wait for people to start getting back into exercise in Spring because we get lots of overuse injuries. So this year, don’t be that person! Get moving now in Winter.
Best Winter exercise tips:
1) cosy home exercise! I usually don’t feel much like vigorous exercise in Winter. So I like to roll out a mat and do some yoga or pilates or whatever I can come up with. There are so many home-based exercise suggestions on Pinterest or You-Tube. Best bit is that you don’t have to go out of the house or even get out of your pyjamas to make your body happy with some movement!
2) hot exercise! We’ve got the most amazing heated hydrotherapy pool at TRAC Murwillumbah. You won’t even notice that you’re wet because you’ll be so warm! Or you could try heated yoga.
3) embrace the cold! I deadset saw someone swimming laps in the outdoor 50m pool last week! While I think they are bonkers, exercising IN the cold is very popular. Think of the Bondi Icebergs! And there is something extra cosy about piling on layers and going for a walk in the cold, breathing out condensation! So enjoy the crisp weather while it lasts because it won’t be long until we’re complaining about it being too hot to exercise!
